Cause for optimism in social care

Find out how our digital blueprint for social care leads to better outcomes for citizens, more time for staff and significant savings for councils

At Channel 3 we have always believed in the power of digital to transform social care. We’re in a privileged position where we see the positive impact that digital can have, not just on those being cared for but the professionals working with them.

We have captured what we have seen in our digital blueprint. It is a vision of a digitally-enabled future for social care that is preventative and cost-efficient, resulting in better outcomes for all involved.

Whilst we are optimistic, we are only too aware of the challenges that the sector faces.

National challenges

The Darzi Report has highlighted critical challenges in health and care nationally, reinforced by Health and Care Secretary Wes Streeting’s three strategic priorities: analogue to digital, hospital to community and sickness to prevention.

Local pressures

Against this national context, Local Authorities now face the difficult task of balancing growing budget concerns with the need to ensure high-quality outcomes for people – a priority only emphasised by newly instituted CQC inspections.

Cause for optimism

Despite this backdrop, there is strong and growing evidence base for a meaningful cause for optimism.

Digital innovation is bringing prevention-focused, community-based care to reality for sector leaders in this space – improving outcomes, while securing long-term financial sustainability for Adult Care Services.

What gives the sector cause for optimism?

We spoke with leaders in the sector, partner organisations and people with lived experience to find out what gave them cause for optimism.

“What makes me really optimistic is seeing some of the outcomes from our investment over the last 3 or 4 years here in Manchester, …not only do over 70% of people after intervention no longer need us…we’ve cost avoided £23 million in terms of what it would have cost us.”
